Protecting your money
Why do you charge fees for your current accounts?
There are all sorts of costs involved in providing current accounts, from admin costs to card issuer and ATM fees. While some banks offer ‘free’ accounts and absorb the upfront cost themselves, you’ll often end up paying many times over in hidden extras and additional fees.
We think it’s fairer to be upfront, with accounts that reflect the true cost of providing the service, and a single low-cost monthly fee.
Who can apply for a current account?
Current accounts are available to new and existing members who meet our membership criteria. Applicants must also be UK residents and over 18.
What ID or other documents do I need?
When you apply, with your permission we will run a credit search to confirm your home address and identity. If we are unable to identify you in this way, we may follow up to request other proof of your identity such as a passport or biometric residency permit (BRP).
We are able to accept a range of forms of ID and proofs of residency, including, in some circumstances, referral letters from recognised local charities and support organisations. If you or someone you work with would like extra assistance applying, please use our Client Referral form.
Will my application be approved?
As our credit union, our mission is to provide access to banking services for the whole community. In almost all cases, if you meet our membership criteria and are able to prove your identity, we will be able to offer you an account.
Only in a very small number of circumstances will we decline an application. We may do this if we assess that there is a high risk of fraud, or if we have grounds to suspect that the account will not be used for the purpose for which it is intended.
