London Assembly member supports ethical financial services for London communities

London Assembly Member Fiona Twycross has become London Mutual Credit Union’s latest member. Fiona’s committee work at the Greater London Authority gives her insight into the financial pressures facing many Londoners. She is currently leading an investigation into food poverty in London on behalf of the London Assembly’s Health Committee.

Supporting ethical financial services

Speaking about her decision to join, Fiona praised the credit union’s community-focused approach: “London Mutual does great work ensuring that local people have ethical financial products available to them including low interest pay day loans and competitive ISAs. It was exciting to hear about what they do and the new products they are planning for the future. In a few years’ time credit unions should have put the high interest lenders out of business and everyone joining credit unions and using their services will help this happen.”

Her membership adds to the growing number of influential Londoners who recognise that community-owned financial institutions offer a sustainable alternative to profit-driven lending practices.
