We're bringing together our two branches in Peckham

From the end of December, our Walworth Road branch will be closing its doors and its services will move to Peckham.

What's happening?

We have made the difficult decision to close our branch at 177 Walworth Road from 31 December. From 4 January, our branch at 4 Heaton Road, Peckham will open five days a week.

This change helps us to continue providing an over-the-counter service for members who prefer to drop into a branch, while keeping the credit union financially strong to serve its members.

Your savings, loans, current account, direct debits, standing orders, payroll deductions and debit card all carry on as they are. You're welcome to continue banking in person at our Peckham branch, to manage your account using your app, or to apply via our website.

Why we're doing this

At a time of rising economic uncertainty, it’s important we keep the credit union in a strong financial position. Our branch at Walworth Road is rented, and operating costs have risen significantly in recent years.

We own our branch in Peckham, which currently is only open three days a week. Paying rising rent on one branch while our own building sits empty two days a week does not make good financial sense, nor do we feel it is a good use of members’ money.

  • Is London Mutual Credit Union closing?

No. Only our Walworth Road branch is closing. The credit union, including our branch in Peckham and our online services including telephone helpdesk and mobile app remain open as usual.

Your savings continue to be protected as usual by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS).

  • What anything change for my account?

No. Your account number, savings, loans, current account, direct debits, standing orders, payroll deductions and debit card all stay as they are.

  • Can I still pay in and take out cash?

Yes. You can pay in and take out cash over the counter at our Peckham branch.

  • Will I have to queue longer at Peckham?

Peckham has four counters, the same as Walworth Road. From Monday 4 January 2027 it will also open five days a week instead of three.

  • Is your phone number changing?

No. You can call us on 0203 773 1751, as now.

  • How do I tell you what I think, or make a complaint?

Call us on 0203 773 1751 or speak to staff in either branch. If you want to make a complaint, we will handle it through our usual complaints process.
