News & updates

London Mutual Credit Union (LMCU) has received the Employer Recognition Scheme Bronze Award from the Armed Forces Covenant, recognising our commitment to providing financial services that support British Armed Forces personnel and veterans.

Supporting those who serve

The Armed Forces Covenant represents a national commitment to ensure that those who serve, or have served, and their families are treated fairly. The Employer Recognition Scheme awards recognise businesses that support Armed Forces personnel, veterans, and their families.

LMCU’s Bronze Award reflects our promise to help Armed Forces members access fair and affordable financial services – something that can be particularly challenging for military personnel and veterans.

Tailored financial services for military life

Since November 2015, LMCU has developed financial products specifically designed for the unique needs of Armed Forces personnel. We understand that serving and retired members often face challenges accessing traditional banking services and affordable credit, especially while stationed abroad or during deployment.

Our services include:

  • Flexible savings accounts – Members can save directly from their salary through payroll deduction, making it easy to build financial security even when deployed.
  • Affordable loans – Designed specifically for military personnel, with flexible terms and repayments taken directly from salary or pension for convenience and affordability.
  • Current accounts and online banking – Complete digital banking access with SMS alerts and mobile services, ensuring members can manage their money wherever they’re stationed.

More than just banking

LMCU is committed to financial inclusion for all Armed Forces members – serving personnel, veterans, reservists, and their families. By joining our credit union, military members benefit from our complete range of financial services, helping them build credit history, save effectively, and work towards long-term financial stability.

Eligibility and membership

If you serve or have served in the Royal Air Force, Royal Navy, or British Army – or if you’re a reservist or family member – you’re eligible to join LMCU.

Our ethical financial products are designed with military life in mind, from the flexibility needed during deployment to the support required when transitioning to civilian careers.

As a not-for-profit co-operative, we’re focused on serving our members’ needs rather than generating profits for shareholders. This means fairer rates, better service, and genuine support for the Armed Forces community.
